One of the reasons for no posts of late has been that my job has been rather demanding of time lately - both in a good way where there are some interesting threads to follow, and in the bad way where there is just too much necessary work to do.

I have just started a fortnight of holiday, and one of the recreations I want to reclaim is to do a little blogging. (In case relatively normal people are reading - sorry, it'll be more of that software stuff.)

As I implied last time, another thing that stops me posting is that I seem to have a lot of incomplete thoughts. There are plenty of unfinished essays sitting in my to_blog.txt file. Experience suggests that I'll publish best by pushing thoughts out without waiting for every idea to become fully-formed - so that's what I'm going to do. Apologies in advance for the ones that turn out to be not only half-realized, but also half-baked.
